WASHINGTON POST: Capitals associate goalie coach believes Alexander Ovechkin may be “wrapped up too much in the rock star status that comes with being Alex Ovechkin.”

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Kolzig is only trying to be helpful, but you can bet the “rock star” label will be added to the growing list of criticisms aimed at Ovechkin this year.

Troubled Toews.

CHICAGO TRIBUNE: Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews is troubled by his team’s nine-game free fall in the Western Conference standings.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: If Toews could improve the goaltending or defense on his own, you know he would.

MERCURY NEWS: Sharks defenseman Dan Boyle has rebounded from a slow start to this season.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: And at the right time of the season, too. They need Boyle at his best if they hope to march to the Cup Final this year.

ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER: Teemu Selanne scored the game-winning goal, as well as tied Brendan Shanahan for 12th overall on the NHL goal-scoring list with his 656th career goal, as the Ducks edged the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Don’t look now, but the Ducks are only six points out of a playoff berth and are 14-2-3 since January 6th. Anyone else get the feeling Selanne won’t be moved at the trade deadline?

PHILLY.COM: Flyers forward James van Riemsdyk is making slow but steady improvement in his recovery from a concussion.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: His NHL career has been anything but easy. Here’s hoping van Riemsdyk makes a full recovery.

DENVER POST: Avalanche goalie J-S Giguere was sidelined by a groin injury in last night’s 3-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Giguere claimed he didn’t believe the injury was serious. For his sake, and the playoff hopes of his teammates, it better not be.

ARIZONA REPUBLIC: Secondary scoring could determine if the Phoenix Coyotes make the playoffs this year.

THE BUFFALO NEWS: Former Flyer Ville Leino will be on the Sabres first line when he faces his former team tonight.

THE SEATTLE TIMES: Wealthy San Francisco businessman Chris Hansen is expected to make an official announcement today of a proposal to construct a new arena in Seattle to lure NBA and NHL teams to that city.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: If this goes through, Seattle becomes the front-runner for a relocated NHL franchise or an expansion team.
