BOSTON GLOBE/TAMPA TRIBUNE: Nathan Horton scored twice and Brad Marchand potted the winner as the Boston Bruins skated to a 4-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Teddy Purcell collected two assists and Steven Stamkos also scored for the Lightning.
COLUMBUS DISPATCH/DETROIT NEWS: Three unanswered goals by RJ Umberger, Derek Dorsett and Vinny Prospal rallied the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 3-2 victory over the slumping Detroit Red Wings. It was the fifth straight loss for the Wings, who’d taken an early 2-0 lead but failed to hold off the Jackets. Blue Jackets forward Artem Anisimov was stretchered from the game and taken to hospital for precautionary reasons after colliding with Wings defenseman Kyle Quincey, who also left the game with a left ankle sprain.
MIAMI HERALD/PHILLY.COM: Jonathan Huberdeau and Peter Mueller each scored twice as the Florida Panthers snapped a five-game winless skid by beating the Philadelphia Flyers 5-2. The Flyers received more bad news Thursday, as winger Matt Read will miss six weeks with a muscle tear in his ribs, believed to have occurred during the Flyers 6-5 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday.
NORTHJERSEY.COM/WASHINGTON POST: Five consecutive penalties by the Capitals in less than 8 minutes in the third period paved the way for a 3-2 New Jersey Devils victory. Ilya Kovalchuk scored the game-winner on a power-play midway through the third.
CHICAGO SUN-TIMES: Blackhawks winger Marian Hossa has returned to practice and could play on Friday as his club takes on the San Jose Sharks. Hossa was injured Tuesday after receiving an elbow to the back of the head by Vancouver Canucks forward Jannik Hansen, raising concerns Hossa may have suffered another concussion. Hansen received a one-game suspension for the incident.
