DETROIT NEWS: The Red Wings 23-game home winning streak finally came to an end as they fell 4-3 to the Vancouver Canucks in a shootout.

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES: Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews was unhurt after he was involved in a single car accident yesterday. Toews is currently sidelined with what’s been called an “upper body injury”, but some suspect it’s a possible concussion.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Hopefully Toews’ accident wasn’t the result of any post-concussion symptoms, and hopefully his condition wasn’t worsened by the collision.

Smith stands tall for Coyotes.

ARIZONA REPUBLIC: Goaltender Mike Smith is not only keeping the Phoenix Coyotes in the playoff hunt, he’s salvaging his NHL career in the process.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Smith’s critics cite the Coyotes strong defense for his improved stats, but Smith was regaining his form late last season with the Lightning. Suggesting it’s solely due to the Coyotes defense is baseless. Ask anyone on the Coyotes and they’ll tell you Smith is their MVP this season.

DALLAS MORNING NEWS: The Stars 3-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks vaulted them into a three-way tie for eighth overall in the Western Conference.  moves them within two points of eighth overall.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: If the Stars keep rising in the standings, it could put an end to the Steve Ott trade rumors which have been floating around of late.

DENVER POST: Former Colorado Avalanche defenseman Kyle Quincey has stirred up some controversy after he claimed there was discord in the dressing room. Quincey was dealt earlier this week to Detroit (via Tampa Bay).

ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER: Jonas Hiller provided the Ducks with a clutch performance, backstopping his team to a 3-2 shootout win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Ducks remain six points back of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. They’re showing no signs of giving up, and I doubt Teemu Selanne requests a trade, if he were ever planning on doing so in the first place.

STLTODAY.COM: The Blues got a rare road win, edging the Nashville Predators 3-2 in a shootout.

MIAMI HERALD: The Florida Panthers dropped their fourth in a row, falling to the Minnesota Wild 3-2 in a shootout.

NJ.COM: Devils defenseman Adam Larsson could be ready to return to action tonight. He’s been sidelined since February 2nd with a bruised lower back.

CALGARY SUN: Flames forward Mike Cammalleri shot his grueling Adidas commercial during one 12-hour period last summer.

CSNNE.COM: Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand had some unkind words about the city of Buffalo. “Yeah, Buffalo would be the worst place in the NHL. So I’m not too excited to go there, but I’ll be excited to leave,” said Marchand.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Memo to Bruins management: Send Marchand a copy of the book “How To Win Friends and Influence People”.

TAMPA BAY TIMES: The Lightning yesterday claimed forward Tim Wallace off waivers from the NY Islanders.
