COLUMBUS DISPATCH: R.J. Umberger scored twice and James Wisniewski collected two assists to lead the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 5-3 victory over the Los Angeles Kings, marking a franchise-best seventh straight win.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: After struggling through the first two months of this season the Blue Jackets have been steadily improving. They’re now jockeying for a wild card berth in the Eastern Conference.
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS: Rick Nash scored twice to give the New York Rangers a 2-0 lead, but the New York Islanders stormed back for a 5-3 win. Earlier in the day the Islanders announced they would not medically clear defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky (shoulder) to participate in the Sochi Games for Slovakia.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Doesn’t sound like that’s going to create a problem between Visnovsky and the Isles, as he understands the reason behind it.
NJ.COM: Returning from a knee injury, Damien Brunner had a three-point night as the New Jersey Devils thumped the St. Louis Blues 7-1.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Brunner’s return should provide a much-needed boost to the Devils offense, which was struggling prior to their tilt against the Blues.
DALLAS MORNING NEWS: Power-play goals by Erik Cole and Ray Whitney, combined with a penalty shot goal by
Jamie Jordie Benn, resulted in the Dallas Stars snapping a three-game losing skid with a 4-0 win over the Minnesota Wild.
SUN-SENTINEL.COM: Ed Jovanovski scored his first goal since returning from hip surgery to help the Florida Panthers down the Buffalo Sabres 4-3. It was a costly win for the Panthers as rookie star Aleksander Barkov suffered a lower-body injury and is considered day-to-day.
CSNPHILLY.COM: A winter storm resulted in the postponement of the Flyers -Hurricanes game. The game will be replayed tonight.
