Red Wings re-sign Tomas Tatar, Sharks talk contract with Justin Braun, plus the latest on Brian Elliott, David Warsofsky and Michael Leighton
DETROIT NEWS: The Red Wings yesterday re-signed forward Tomas Tatar to a three-year deal worth $2.75 million annually.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: That’s a good, affordable bridge contract for a promising young forward coming off an entry-level contract. Only 23, Tatar last season led the Wings in shots (158), was second in goals (19) and third in plus/minus (plus-12). If he continues his development as expected, he’ll easily double his annual salary on his next contract.
CSN BAY AREA: Kevin Kurz reported the Sharks began contract talks with defenseman Justin Braun. Negotiations are expected to continue later in August following Braun’s wedding.
STLTODAY.COM: Blues goalie Brian Elliott is determined to retain the starter’s job when the season begins.
CSNNE.COM: Newly re-signed defenseman David Warsofsky hopes to crack the Bruins blueline corps this summer.
WINDSOR STAR: Former NHL goaltender Michael Leighton has mutually terminated his contract with KHL team HC Sochi following an illness.
