MIAMI HERALD: Florida Panthers defenseman Brian Campbell not only became the first defenseman in 58 years to win the Lady Byng trophy, but  the first player in Panthers history to win a voted-for award. The previous Panther to win an award was Pavel Bure (Richard trophy) as top goalscorer.

CSNPHILLY.COM: Philadelphia’s Claude Giroux was voted the EA Sports NHL 13 cover boy, beating out Nashville’s Pekka Rinne in fan voting.

THE GLOBE AND MAIL: Canadian telecommunications giants Rogers and Bell – the new co-owners of the Toronto Maple Leafs – won’t be allowed to bid together for the NHL’s Canadian TV rights in 2014. They would have to bid separately against CBC.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: That could give CBC a fighting chance to retain the rights to Saturday night games and the Stanley Cup Final.
