Sale of the Phoenix Coyotes is finally complete.

NHL.COM: officially announced yesterday the sale of the Phoenix Coyotes to IceArizona. The group announced it won’t switch to the name Arizona Coyotes until 2014-15 at the earliest.

CSNNE.COM: Jarome Iginla, who signed a one-year contract with the Boston Bruins last month, is hoping to remain with the club beyond this coming season if all goes well.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: If things go well, I daresay the Bruins would like to keep him, provided his asking price isn’t extravagant.

NJ.COM: Former Devils forward Alexei Ponikarovsky has signed a two-year contract with SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: That likely brings to an end Ponikarovsky’s NHL career, which began with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2000-1. His best season was in 2008-09, when he scored 23 goals and 61 points in what would be his final full season with the Leafs.

TSN.CA: As part of its retrospective of the 25th anniversary of “The Gretzky Trade”, TSN examines Gretzky’s impact on California hockey.

THE SPORTING NEWS: NHL Hall of Fame defenseman Chris Chelios will be an analyst for Foxs Sports 1 during its coverage of the Sochi Winter Olympics.

MLIVE.COM: Former NHL forward Shawn Burr has died as a result of a fall at his home. Burr was battling leukemia for the past three years. He was 47.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: My condolences to Burr’s family and friends.
