Are the Blackhawks and Wild interested in Martin Brodeur?

NJ.COM: Randy Miller reported executives from the Minnesota Wild and Chicago Blackhawks were to attend Thursday’s game between the New Jersey Devils and Columbus Blue Jackets. The two clubs have been linked to Devils’ goalie Martin Brodeur in the rumor mill.

NORTHJERSEY.COM: Tom Gulitti reports Devils GM Lou Lamoriello intends to be a buyer, not a seller, leading up to the NHL trade deadline. He admits the club’s performance heading toward March 5 will determine his thinking.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: If the Wild and Blackhawks scouts were there to watch Brodeur they got a lovely view of him on the bench, as Cory Schneider played that game. It’s believed Lamoriello’s in the market for scoring help.

ESPN.COM: Katie Strang reports contract talks are ongoing between the New York Rangers and defenseman Dan Girardi. Talks with Ryan Callahan remain at a stalemate. It’s believed Rangers GM Glen Sather could trade one or both if they’re unsigned by the trade deadline.

THE BUFFALO NEWS: Amy Moritz reports Ryan Miller, Matt Moulson, Steve Ott and Henrik Tallinder could be playing their final home game with the Sabres on Friday. The four are unrestricted free agents this summer and have figured prominently of late in the rumor mill.

TSN.CA: Calgary Flames GM Brian Burke acknowledged making a contract offer to winger Mike Cammalleri. He has nothing further to report but admitted he’s also fielding offers for Cammalleri. He’d like to add a player who can help the Flames right away, or one who is close to playing who could help them next season.

THE TENNESSEAN: Josh Cooper reports Nashville Predators center David Legwand is unconcerned about recent trade rumors swirling about him. Legwand also admitted contract talks with the Predators appear at a stalemate.

OTTAWA SUN: Bruce Garrioch reports Senators GM Bryan Murray continues working the phones in search of a top-six winger. The asking prices are high for Islanders’ winger Thomas Vanek and Sabres’ winger Matt Moulson. Murray will continue to shop around. Garrioch claims the Senators remain interested in Blues’ winger Chris Stewart.  Murray must also make decisions on pending UFAs Chris Phillips and Milan Michalek.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: If the Blues can ship Stewart to the Senators I suspect their asking price would be a good young (and affordable) player. Such a move could be a salary dump to open up cap space for a bigger move, like perhaps Ryan Miller.  I could see the Senators landing Moulson though not for a first round pick. I doubt they’ll land Vanek. I also think Murray would prefer to retain Michalek and Phillips. Murray still seems to be a buyer, but that could change if the Senators drop more games leading up to the traded deadline.

PHILLY.COM: Sam Carchidi reports Flyers GM Paul Holmgren faces a difficult decision regarding defenseman Andrej Meszaros. Does he keep him for a run at a playoff berth or move him at the deadline rather than lose him for nothing to free agency this summer.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: That could depend upon how the Flyers perform between now and March 5.

WINNIPEG FREE PRESS: Gary Lawless calls upon the Winnipeg Jets to re-sign pending UFA defenseman Mark Stuart.
