Various sources report San Jose Sharks winger Ryane Clowe has agreed to waive his no-trade clause and accept a deal to the New York Rangers.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Rangers are reportedly shipping a second and third round pick to the Sharks in return. Clowe will provide a measure of grit and character which has been missing from the Blueshirts lineup this season, but I’m skeptical over the impact he’ll have on their roster. Offensive stars like Brad Richards and Marian Gaborik are struggling, plus they’re still missing defenseman Marc Staal to an eye injury. Clowe won’t be able to compensate for that. It’ll be interesting to see if he becomes a long-term acquisition for the Rangers, as he’s due to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
