Coyotes close to re-signing Mikkel Boedker, the Avalanche could be in the market for blueline depth, and Daniel Cleary to make a decision where he’ll sign on Sunday.
TSN’s Bob McKenzie reports the following via Twitter: “Hearing RFA F Mikkel Boedker is on verge of agreeing to terms on a 2-year deal with PHX. Not quite official just yet but likely imminent.”
SPECTOR’S NOTE: I expect the dollars will be close to what Marcus Johansson received today from the Capitals (two-years, $4 million).
DENVER POST: Mike Chambers claimed the Colorado Avalanche tried to improve their blueline this summer. Chambers believes they have plenty of cap space to improve their defense this season.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Avalanche have over $10 million in cap space. The question is, will they use any of it to bolster their defense?
Some decent veteran options remain available via free agency (Ron Hainsey, Ian White) who could be had at bargain prices now. Ryan Whitney is also available, though his reduced mobility is a problem. Hal Gill would provide leadership and experience, but age and injury are catching up with him. Tom Gilbert and Carlo Colaiacovo are also available.
MLIVE.COM: Ansar Khan reports Daniel Cleary still wants to re-sign with the Detroit Red Wings, but he’s not interested in a professional tryout contract. Cleary claims he’s spoken with three other teams and will make a decision where to play on Sunday.
