The Oilers could have interested in Paul Ranger, Taylor Hall ready to assume a larger leadership role, Canucks have interest in John Tortorella, and Senators defenseman Mike Lundin heads to the KHL.

Could Taylor Hall become the new captain of the Oilers?

EDMONTON SUN: Oilers star Taylor Hall is ready to assume more responsibilities under new GM Craig MacTavish and coach Dallas Eakins.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: There’s talk of Hall becoming the Oilers captain if they should trade or buy out Shawn Horcoff.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: The Oilers reportedly have interest in Toronto Marlies defenseman Paul Ranger, a former member of the Tampa Bay Lighting who played for Eakins with the Marlies.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: If Ranger has aspirations of returning to the NHL, this might be the route back. The Oilers lacked experienced blueliners, and Ranger would be an affordable addition who is comfortable playing for Eakins.

VANCOUVER PROVINCE: Ben Kuzma suggests the fiery John Tortorella could be a good replacement for departed Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Tortorella is a good coach, but his fiery temper means he has a limited shelf life. He could either provide the Canucks with the required motivation to improve, or alienate the team’s core.

NBC SPORTS PRO HOCKEY TALK: cited a report from Russia claiming Ottawa Senators free agent defenseman Mike Lundin has signed with Barys Astana of the Kontinental Hockey League.
