The Washington Capitals have signed forward Joel Ward to a four year, $12 million contract.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Another overpayment, as Ward will earn $3 million per season. Unless that scoring touch he showed in the playoffs for the Predators this spring is indicative he’s breaking out as  a scorer, the Caps will have invested $3 million per season on a third-fourth line checking winger.  True, Ward’s a good, hard-working checking forward, but I don’t believe he’s worth that much.
