Canadiens forward Andrei Kostitsyn might face a demotion, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on possibly playing for Canada’s junior team this winter, and Senators Jesse Winchester is looking forward to the upcoming.

CTV MONTREAL: Arpon Basu suggested the Canadiens recent addition of winger Erik Cole might result in a demotion to the third line for Andrei Kostitsyn, adding that might work out for Kostitsyn, as he wouldn’t have to face the same kind of opposition as he has playing on the Habs top lines.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Basu acknowledged it’s not a certainty Kostitsyn might be demoted. If he is, it could work to Kostitsyn’s advantage, though it would likely stoke criticism he’s not a top-six forward. Still, if he were demoted and thrived offensively, it would certainly be beneficial to the Canadiens offensive depth.

EDMONTON SUN: Derek van Diest reports Oilers prospect Ryan Nugent-Hopkins would prefer to be playing with the Oilers this coming season, but if he were returned to junior and had the chance to play for Canada’s world junior team, he’d be happy with that too.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Nugent-Hopkins would certainly be a valuable addition to Canada’s WJC team if he’s available.

OTTAWA SUN: Bruce Garrioch reports Senators forward Jesse Winchester is itching to get started for next season, and is hopeful the team can make the playoffs.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: It’ll be interesting to see how the rebuilt Senators fare this coming season under their new head coach and a younger roster.
