The Flames will soon need to rebuild with youth…Some possible line combinations for the Blue Jackets…John Tavares is a reason for Islanders fans to get excited…Asking fans what gets them excited about the pre-season…A comment on the Jets giving David Koci a tryout.

SIN BIN SPORTS BLOG: Eric Roberts wonders how long the Calgary Flames can rely on veteran talent, suggesting they’ll soon have to face a youth movement.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: GM Jay Feaster may dismiss such talk, but in a few years the Flames will have to replace stars like Jarome Iginla and Miikka Kiprusoff, and depending on how the club performs over the next couple of years, they might have no choice but to commence rebuilding in earnest with youth players.

THE CANNON: Mike MacLean offers up some possible forward line combinations for the Blue Jackets.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The addition of Jeff Carter and Vinny Prospal gives the Blue Jackets some interesting possible combinations. I still see Carter on Rick Nash’s line, but that’ll be determined on what kind of playing chemistry they have.

LIGHTHOUSE HOCKEY: WesBard believes John Tavares will be NY Islanders fans reason to be excited over the upcoming season, projecting the possibility of a 30-goal season for Tavares.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Tavares has made steady improvement since his rookie season in 2009-10. A 30-goal (or more) season is not out of the question.

RAW CHARGE: Cassie McClellan asks, “What do you look forward to most in the pre-season?”

SPECTOR’S NOTE: For me, it’s the opportunity to see some of the promising young talent and guess which ones will be among this season’s rookie class.

ARCTIC ICE HOCKEY: “Bettman’s Nightmare” isn’t thrilled by the notion of the Winnipeg Jets inviting enforcer David Koci to training camp.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: He’s not a fan of the type of player Koci represents: an enforcer who contributes nothing but fights. I share his opinion. Nothing personal against Koci and others like him. They made their way to the NHL with their pugilistic skills, and I certainly don’t envy their role, but I don’t believe players like him have any place in the game. I also know I’m probably in the minority on that count.
