Update on Tyler Myers negotiations with the Sabres…Martin Brodeur on his future plans…Update on Josh Bailey’s negotiations with the Islanders…Flyers invite Adam Mair to training camp…Update on Sergei Samsonov.

THE BUFFALO NEWS: John Vogl reports Sabres owner Terry Pegula said defenseman Tyler Myers wasn’t going anywhere, while Myers agent, J.P. Barry, said the two sides weren’t far apart in negotiations. TSN yesterday reported of speculation the two sides might be working on a six year, $33 million deal. There’s anticipation a deal could be announced at a press conference called for 2 pm ET today.

NEW YORK POST: Mark Everson reports Devils long-time goaltender Martin Brodeur, who’s entering the final season of his current contract, is uncertain about his future beyond this season, seeming to suggest he could move on beyond this season if the club goes into rebuilding mode, or retire if there’s another lockout.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: I’m guessing Brodeur could retire either way. He’s made it clear he wants to remain a Devil, and that could mean moving into the front office after this season. Of course, if he has a good performance this season and the Devils do well, he might consider staying for another season. I really don’t see him playing for anyone else.

NEWSDAY: Arthur Staple reports the Islanders management, having re-signed John Tavares, will turn their focus toward RFA forward Josh Bailey. Team policy suggests if Baily isn’t re-signed when training camp opens, he’ll risk losing the entire season.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: I’ll be very surprised if it comes to that. I think we’ll see Bailey re-sign by tomorrow.

PHILLY.COM: reports the Flyers have invited veteran NHL forward Adam Mair to training camp, and signed defenseman Blake Kessel, brother of Maple Leafs forward Phil Kessel, to an entry-level contract.

DETROIT NEWS: Ted Kulfan reports free agent forward Sergei Samsonov has been skating with the Red Wings at their practice facility during the conditioning period. He would like to try out with the Red Wings, but Kulfan suggests the club appears set with its depth at forward.
