Flames mourn Wade Belak’s death…Daniel Sedin still haunted by Canucks Cup loss…Ryan Nugent-Hopkins dons number 93 with the Oilers…former NHLer Shane Hnidy move to the broadcast booth with the Jets.

CALGARY SUN: Steve MacFarlane report the Flames are mourning the loss of Wade Belak, who played roughly two seasons with the club from 1998-99 to 2000-01. Captain Jarome Iginla was a teammate of Belak’s back then, and expressed shock at his passing, calling Belak “a wonderful guy and great teammate.”

SPECTOR’S NOTE: All of the NHL world is in mourning today, and searching for reasons for Belak’s death.

VANCOUVER SUN: Elliott Pap reports Canucks forward Daniel Sedin remains haunted by his team’s Game Seven loss to Boston in the 2011 Stanley Cup Final, and has been unable to get over it. He also claims the team will carefully guard against the so-called “Stanley Cup hangover” that tends to dog participants in the Final.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Sedin isn’t the only one who hasn’t gotten over it. Their fans took it hard, and Sedin and company can expect heightened expectations from their followers this season.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: Jim Matheson reports  Ryan Nugent-Hopkins wore number 93 on his Oilers jersey during a recent photo shoot in Toronto for trading cards highlighting promising NHL players-in-waiting.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The real question, however, is will he be wearing that jersey with that number as an NHL rookie this season?

WINNIPEG SUN:  Ken Wiebe reports former NHL defenseman Shane Hnidy has officially retired as an NHL player and will be moving into the radio broadcast booth as a color commentator for Jets games on Sports Radio 1290.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Best of luck to Hnidy in his new role.
