Does Rick DiPietro’s injury affect Isles possible trade plans for Evgeni Nabokov? Could Bruins scoring slump provide credence to rumors linking them to Coyotes Ray Whitney? What’s the latest on Anton Stralman? Read on for the latest.

Will Nabokov be showcased for a trade?

ESPN.COM: Pierre LeBrun and Scott Burnside discussed the latest injury to NY Islanders hard luck goalie Rick DiPietro, as well as how it could affect the club’s potential plans to move veteran Evgeni Nabokov at some point this season. LeBruns feels the Isles must play Nabokov at some point to showcase him for a trade, and that they’ll deal him before the trade deadline, regardless of DiPietro’s health, rather than risk losing him for nothing next summer to free agency. Burnside however countered that the Isles might not be so keen to move Nabokov if they’re in the playoff chase this season and if there remains questions about DiPietro’s health.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: For now, it’s safe to say Nabokov won’t be going anywhere. And no, the Isles are playing Al Montoya to showcase him for a trade. They’re playing him because he’s played well, and will ride the hot hand between the pipes for as long as possible.

ESPN.COM: James Murphy suggested if the Bruins current roster, especially their top line players like Milan Lucic, David Krejci and Nathan Horton, doesn’t step up, rumors of Phoenix Coyotes veteran winger Ray Whitney being dealt to the Bruins “may become reality”.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Way too early to start speculating about such a move. The Bruins best offensive players will regain their scoring touch, and as for Whitney, has anyone asked the Coyotes, or the Phoenix media, if he’s available? No? Then why the assumption he could be dealt to Boston?

NORTHJERSEY.COM: Tom Gulitti reports Anton Stralman has returned to Sweden to visit family. Devils GM Lou Lamoriello said Stralman will come back “when something possibly happens” but offered no guarantees the defenseman will get a contract.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Seems to me if Stralman wants to play in the NHL, he might wish to consider other options beside the Devils, if they cannot offer him any guarantee of a contract.
