In today’s medley of notable posts from the NHL blogosphere:  Defending Rick DiPietro…Weber or Suter?…Davis Payne’s reaction to being fired as Blues head coach…Turris trade scenarios for the Flames…Assessing the Wild roster…A call to end Scott Arniels’ misery…Absurd Goalie Monday.

Not as bad as his critics believe.

LIGHTHOUSE HOCKEY: Chris McNally points out Rick DiPietro’s performance this season hasn’t been as bad as his constant critics believe it to be.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Hopefully, DiPietro can stay healthy the remainder of the season and silence his critics.

RED LIGHT DISTRICT: Debates the question: If you were the Predators GM, which defenseman would you choose to keep: Shea Weber or Ryan Suter?

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Weber’s the better puck-handling blueliner and arguably the better hitter, but I think Suter’s the better all-round defenseman. Ultimately, it’ll come down to dollars, and Suter could prove more affordable to re-sign than Weber.

ST. LOUIS GAME TIME: Brad Lee marvels over how well Davis Payne reacted to being fired as head coach of the Blues.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: That’s because, for an ex-NHL coach hoping to return to the bigs, it’s a good idea not to publicly express anger, bitterness or resentment, even if you might be feeling it, over being sacked.

MATCHSTICKS AND GASOLINE: Mitch Smith recently expressed surprise at the outrage leveled at Kyle Turris over his holdout, and stumps for the Flames to pursue him.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Coyotes management insists Turris won’t be dealt. We’ll find out by December 1st if that’s the case.

HOCKEY WILDERNESS: examines the stock of the current Wild roster.

PUCK UPDATE: Steven Ovadia calls on the Columbus Blue Jackets to put head coach Scott Arniel out of his misery and fire him.

THE STRANGEST ONE OF ALL: It’s Monday, and that means another installment of Scotty Wazz’s “Absurd Goalie Monday”. Today: Derek Wilkinson is profiled.
