System failure in Washington…Time for the Habs to retool?…A contract extension for Leafs coach Ron Wilson?…Oilers must do something…Decisions facing the Blue Jackets…Where Kyle Turris fits into the Senators lineup…A poll on what’s wrong with the Kings.

ROCK THE RED: Harry Hawkings looks at the growing system failure with the struggling Washington Capitals, suggesting Dale Hunter wasn’t the best choice as head coach.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Hawkings notes Hunter isn’t going anywhere, but his system doesn’t appear to be working for the Capitals. Not good news for Caps fans hoping for a significant improvement under Hunter.

HABS EYES ON THE PRIZE: Andrew Birkshire believes the Canadiens need more than just a coaching change but also a roster retooling, suggesting Andrei Kostitsyn, Tomas Kaberle, Hal Gill, and Travis Moen as trade bait.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Unless the Habs drop to the bottom of the Conference standings and well out of the playoff race by early February, there won’t be any significant shakeups coming during the season.

Should the Leafs re-sign coach Wilson?

MAPLE LEAFS HOT STOVE: Alec Brownscombe argues against the Leafs offering head coach Ron Wilson a contract extension.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: If the Leafs make the playoffs, Ron Wilson won’t  be going anywhere. Mull that over, Leafs fans.

LOWETIDE: With potentially another season slipping away from the Edmonton Oilers, here’s a call for management to do something now to save the season.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: I’d say the most logical move would be shopping Ales Hemsky, who in my opinion no longer fits into the team’s plans, as it now belongs to Nugent-Hopkins, Hall and Eberle. Problem is, there might not be much of a market for Hemsky until perhaps mid-to-late January at the earliest, which could be too late to land the Oilers a season-saving return. I get the sense management will consider doing something over the holiday trade freeze, but whether or not they actually make a move following the freeze remains to be seen.

HOCKEYBUZZ.COM: Eric Smith examines the decisions facing the Columbus Blue Jackets, such as firing GM Scott Howson, or firing head coach Scott Arniel, or blowing up the roster, or doing nothing.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Jackets have so far resisted making serious moves during their stumble through the first third of the season. Could that change between the end of the holiday trade freeze (December 27th )and the February 27th trade deadline? Stay tuned…
