Shooting down suspicions of Ovechkin on steroids…Thoughts about Ilya Kovalchuk…The Habs and their relationship with the media…Should the Bruins re-sign Chris Kelly?…Ryan McDonagh steps up for the Rangers…The ten most expensive bluelines…What can the Hurricanes do with Tomas Kaberle…The best hockey book of 2011…Absurd Goalie Monday.

PUCK DADDY: Ryan Lambert effectively destroys an accusation suggesting Alexander Ovechkin is no longer playing as well as he once did because he’s no longer using performance-enhancing drugs.

Kovalchuk turning into an expensive bust for the Devils.

RUNNING WITH THE DEVILS: Some none-too-pleasant thoughts and buyer’s regret concerning Ilya Kovalchuk’s less-than-stellar performance.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: For all the speculation over why Alexander Ovechkin is playing poorly, few have raised comment about the decline of Kovalchuk’s game since joining the Devils. And no, I don’t believe PEDs have anything to do with that. A terrific, if one-dimensional, talent playing on a defensive-minded team equals bad fit.

LIONS IN WINTER: An examination of the frosty relationship of late between the Montreal Canadiens and the media.

MC79 HOCKEY: Tyler Dellow takes an in-depth look at Ryan Nugent-Hopkins stats so far this season.

THE HOCKEY WRITERS: Should the Boston Bruins re-sign Chris Kelly?

SPECTOR’S NOTE: As long as he’s not seeking an outlandish raise, certainly. He’s been a terrific fit since joining the Bruins midway through last season, and well worth retaining for the right price.

BLUESHIRT BANTER: Ryan McDonagh continues to impress and improve on the NY Rangers blueline this season.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Habs fans bewailing the trade which shipped McDonagh to the Rangers as part of the return for the overpaid Scott Gomez need to remember that, if that trade wasn’t done, Brian Gionta wouldn’t have signed, as Gomez was the bait to entice Gionta. If Gionta hadn’t signed, neither would Mike Cammalleri, Hal Gill, Travis Moen or Jaroslav Spacek, and in all likelihood, Erik Cole would’ve taken a pass two years later. The Habs up until the Gomez trade had tremendous difficulty attracting quality UFAs. That changed in the summer of 2009, because of the Gomez trade. Besides, the Habs owed the Rangers for that lopsided Alex Kovalev trade in 2004!

HOCKEY INDEPENDENT: The ten most expensive defense corps in the league this season.

SWEET TEA, BARBECUE AND BODYCHECK: The Acid Queen wonders how the Carolina Hurricanes can rid themselves of the enigma that is Tomas Kaberle.

GREATEST HOCKEY LEGENDS: Joe Pelletier picks “The Devil and Bobby Hull” as the top hockey book of 2011.

THE STRANGEST ONE OF ALL: FOHS host and pal Scotty Wazz with the latest instalment of “Absurd Goalie Monday.” This week: Goran Hogosta.
