Various sources reports the Minnesota Wild have dealt defenseman Nick Schultz to the Edmonton Oilers for defenseman Tom Gilbert.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The third trade of the day is also a true “hockey trade”, being player for player. It’s an interesting move by both clubs. Gilbert is a puck-moving defenseman, while Schultz is more of a defensive blueliner. It’s also been suggested this move was made by the Wild in anticipation of clearing salary for signing Zach Parise in the off-season, but I consider that getting ahead of themselves. Both have two years remaining on their contracts. The Oilers needed a more experienced defensive blueline presence, while the Wild need an offensive boost on their blueline they’ve lacked since trading away Brent Burns.
