DENVER POST: Adrian Dater reports the Colorado Avalanche have re-signed team captain Milan Hejduk to a one-year, $2 million contract. According to Dater, the 36-year-old Hejduk wants a chance to prove he can still play in this league. Though he scored only 14 goals this season, Hejduk believes he can score 20 goals again.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: I must confess to being surprised by this development, as Hejduk’s decline suggested to me his NHL career had come to an end. It’ll be interesting to see if he’s got enough left in the tank for one more good season. The move pushes the Avs payroll for next season to $23.458 million invested in 9 players.
