Blue Jackets re-sign Nikitin for two more years.

Various sources report the Columbus Blue Jackets have re-signed defenseman Nikita Nikitin to a two-year, $4.3 million contract, worth $1.8 million next season and $2.5 million in 2013-14, for an average cap hit of$2.15 million. Nikitin, 26, was dealt to the Blue Jackets by the Blues last November for defenseman Kris Russell, and in 54 games had 35 points with a plus-minus of -5, becoming a valuable part of the Blue Jackets defense corps.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: See, the Blue Jackets did win a trade! Good move locking Nikitin up to a short, affordable deal.

The St. Louis Blues have re-signed checking forward Scott Nichol to a one-year, $650K contract. Though only contributing 8 points for the Blues, he won over 57 percent of his faceoffs.
