Updates on Luongo, Schultz, Parenteau, Selanne, Hudler, Salvador and more.

Schultz decision could come today.

TSN.CA: Darren Dreger reports the Oilers recruited Wayne Gretzky and Paul Coffey to lure Justin Schultz to Edmonton…Devils goalie Martin Brodeur wants to play two more years, but may consider a one-year deal, even with the Devils. Florida, Tampa Bay and Chicago are believed the most interested in him…The Panthers remain a primary trade partner for Roberto Luongo, but if Brodeur’s available, they might turn their focus to Brodeur. The Toronto Maple Leafs could benefit if Brodeur were to sign with Florida or Tampa Bay, as the market for Luongo would shrink, plus it could put Jose Theodore or Mathieu Garon in play.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: Jim Matheson reports Ray Whitney would, like Shane Doan, like to re-sign with the Phoenix Coyotes, but is concerned over the ownership situation…He believes the Dallas Stars “will certainly make a play” for Doan, as he and Stars owner Tom Gaglardi are investors in the Kamloops Blazers…Matheson also speculates how things might shake out for Zach Parise, Ryan Suter and Jaromir Jagr…If the Florida Panthers acquired Roberto Luongo, he wonders if they would trade Jacob Markstrom for a top-six forward. He still feels Luongo could end up in Toronto…With Jonathan Quick re-signed, the Kings will try to move backup Jonathan Bernier…The Calgary Flames have nine defensemen under contract, leading Matheson to speculate they could move Jay Bouwmeester, suggesting the Blues might have interest…

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The addition of Brodeur into the free agent market would certainly shake things up regarding potential destinations for Luongo…I suspect Doan and Whitney might be patient with the Coyotes, but not for long beyond July 1…Markstrom, if shopped, won’t fetch a top six forward. He has promise, but apparently the Panthers don’t believe he’s ready for the NHL yet…The Kings don’t have to rush to move Bernier, who has one year left on his current contract. They could retain him for next season, and if needed, shop him near the trade deadline…One has to believe the Flames could ship out a blueliner, and Bouwmeester seems the likely candidate, though his salary and movement clause will limit the potential destinations.

NBC PRO HOCKEY TALK: Blueline prospect Justin Schultz could decide which NHL team he’ll sign with as early as today.

MIAMI HERALD’s George Richards reported the following yesterday on Twitter: “Word on street is #FlaPanthers are internally getting ready for the return of Roberto Luongo:.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: By getting ready internally, that could mean getting ownership on board with taking on Luongo’s hefty contract.

DENVER POST: Adrian Dater suggests the Colorado Avalanche should pursue winger P.A. Parenteau.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Avs GM Greg Sherman has hinted he’ll be active in the UFA market, so perhaps Parenteau will be a target.

ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER: Eric Stephens reports Ducks GM Bob Murray will contract Teemu Selanne regarding his future plans.

DETROIT FREE PRESS: George Sipple reports Jiri Hudler is headed for the UFA market but isn’t closing the door on a return with the Red Wings.

NORTHJERSEY.COM: Tom Gulitti reports UFA blueliner Bryce Salvador would like to re-sign with the Devils but realizes they have to deal with Zach Parise and Martin Brodeur first. Salvador doesn’t rule out signing with the Devils past July 1.

CSNNE.COM: Joe Haggerty reports Boston Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli claims his club won’t be pursuing big name free agents this summer.

DALLAS MORNING NEWS: Mike Heika reports the Stars will allow their UFA players (Sheldon Souray, Adam Burish, Radek Dvorak, Jake Dowell and Toby Petersen) to test the market but aren’t ruling out re-signing them.
