Staal joins his brother in Carolina.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have traded center J0rdan Staal to the Carolina Hurricanes for the 8th pick overall,  Brandon Sutter and Brian Doumolin.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: So much for all the reports claiming the Penguins wouldn’t trade Staal tonight on his wedding night, but it was a move Shero had to make, as Staal wasn’t going to re-sign, having rejected a 10-year, $60 million contract, and it was expected the only team he would sign with next summer as a UFA was the Hurricanes.  Sutter will be a good, third line center for the Penguins, allowing them to stick with Sidney Crosby as their first line center and Evgeni Malkin as their second line center. It also frees up considerable cap space, which could – as TSN’s Pierre McGuire suggested – put them into the market for New Jersey’s Zach Parise if he becomes available as a UFA.
