OTTAWA SUN: Bruce Garrioch suggests Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke should try to convince Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas to “end his self-imposed break”. Garrioch claims the belief in NHL circles is Thomas could make a trade request by mid-July.

Could Jagr return with the Flyers next season?

ESPN.COM: Pierre LeBrun reported Florida Panthers contract talks with pending UFA blueliner Jason Garrison should commence this week, and the blueliner should expect an offer from the club…There’s mutual interest between Flyers management and Jaromir Jagr in his possible return with the club next season, but it’s not guaranteed…Contract talks between the Nashville Predators and RFA blueliner Shea Weber have yet to commence, as management’s focus is currently upon re-signing pending UFA blueliner Ryan Suter.

CBC.CA: Elliotte Friedman, in his latest “30 Thoughts” column, wondered if pending Capitals winger Alexander Semin might consider a discount to sign with the Detroit Red Wings to play alongside countryman Pavel Datsyuk, which he enjoyed during the recent World Hockey Championships. Friedman also wondered if Semin would be a match with head coach Mike Babcock.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Bruins would have to allow rival teams to speak with Thomas and his agent, something they might be willing to do now. It’s clear Thomas’ claim he wants to sit out next season is considered simply a leverage tactic to control where he could be moved once his “no-movement” clause expires on July 1. We’ll find out soon enough if that’s the case…Garrison could get considerable interest if Ryan Suter is re-signed by the Predators and if they also retain Shea Weber long-term…If the Flyers pass on Jagr, there could also be interest in him around the league, but he shouldn’t expect expensive contract offers. He’s likely got a limited number of preferred destinations…The Predators are doing the right thing in focusing on re-signing Suter first, as Weber is an RFA thus giving them more time to work out a new deal with him…I realize the notion of Semin playing for Detroit sounds crazy, but if Datsyuk were to go to bat for him, perhaps the Wings management might consider it? Stranger things have happened.
