Ten goals for the Oilers to make the playoffs, an update on PK Subban’s contract negotiations, and new Senator Marc Methot looking forward to the upcoming season.

Can Dubnyk help carry the Oilers to the playoffs?

EDMONTON JOURNAL: David Staples recently listed ten goals the Oilers must achieve to make the playoffs. Among them: new Oilers Nail Yakupov or Justin Schultz must be a rookie of the year candidate, Devan Dubnyk must finally prove himself as an NHL starter, and three of their five scoring stars must each play seventy or more games. Staples believes if the Oilers can achieve five or six of those ten goals, they could make the post-season for the first time since 2006.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Oilers are loaded with budding young talent, and if they all have strong seasons it’ll certainly help their playoff chances. Of the goals Staples listed, I believe Dubnyk’s goaltending and the defensive issues will be the real keys for the Oilers making the playoffs.

CANOE.CA: Contract talks between the Montreal Canadiens and the agents for defenseman P.K. Subban are ongoing, and agent Mark Guy said he’s only negotiating with the Habs.  Guy did acknowledge some teams have expressed interest in Subban, but there’s no offer sheet in sight.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: An offer sheet for Subban is a possibility, albeit a slim one, as the Habs would quickly match it. Subban isn’t going to get a mind-blowing offer sheet like Shea Weber.

OTTAWA SUN: New Senators defenseman Marc Methot is looking forward to the upcoming season.
