Smyth staying in Edmonton.

TSN’s Darren Dreger reports the Edmonton Oilers have re-signed winger Ryan Smyth to a two-year contract worth $2.25 million per season.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Smyth was reportedly seeking $3 million per season, but the Oilers didn’t want to go that high. Evidently, the need to finish his career in Edmonton was stronger than seeking more money elsewhere. He’ll continue to provide valuable leadership and experience, but he also should expect to start seeing less playing time as the Oilers promote their younger players.
