Updates on Jordan Eberle and Linus Omark, Rene Bourque has abdominal surgery, and Ron Hainsey’s reaction to NHL CBA negotations.

Eberle and Oilers still talking contract.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: The Oilers and forward Jordan Eberle continue to talk contract. While he might make the same amount per season as linemate Taylor Hall ($6 million per), the term might not be as long (five years, rather than seven), bringing both players up to age 27 and eligibility for UFA status.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: That depends, of course, if the eligibility for UFA status doesn’t change under a new CBA.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: Winger Linus Omark is heading for Switzerland this season after failing to sign a new deal with the Oilers, who’ll retain his rights.

MONTREAL CANADIENS: announced winger Rene Bourque underwent abdominal surgery and will be sidelined 8-12 weeks.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: If there’s a lockout, it won’t affect Bourque’s recovery and efforts to return to the lineup.

WINNIPEG FREE PRESS: Jets player rep Ron Hainsey has found the NHL CBA negotiations fascinating.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: NHL fans, meanwhile, have a different word starting with “f” to describe the negotiations.
