Impact of another lockout for NHL players and those who rely on the league, a lockout might work in Quebec City’s favor, the Ducks prepare their season ticket holders for a lockout, NHL milestones for this upcoming season, and the league reveals the Winter Classic logo.

Purcell concerned over possible NHL lockout.

CBC.CA: Tampa Bay Lightning forward Teddy Purcell believes the lockout would hurt the players in different ways.

“I don’t think it’s good for anybody — older guys who only have a couple of years left, they don’t want to miss a year, and younger guys like me, who are just starting to establish themselves in the league,” said Purcell.

“As a player, you want to take the next step in your career, and a year off would hinder that.”

NBC SPORTS PRO HOCKEY TALK: cites a CTV News report regarding the effect a lockout would have in NHL cities upon workers who rely on the league for part or all of their livelihood.

“It is the part-time employees, those who are relying on a little bit of an extra bump to meet ends on their a car payments or on their mortgages,” sports business commentator Tom Mayenknecht said…

“We’re talking about waitresses, bartenders in pubs that have a big spike when there is NHL hockey being played.”…

Jim Sinclair from the BC Federation of Labour estimates that there are “tens of thousand of people all over North America who will be affected by this directly, in their pocketbook.”

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Those are the people who’ll have my sympathy as they’ll lose the most from an NHL lockout. Not the owners or players, as they’ll always have their money. Not even the fans, for unless you rely on the NHL for part or all of your livelihood, a lockout is merely an inconvenience.  Another group I worry about are bloggers and free-lance writers trying to make a living covering the NHL. Some of those folks could be laid off, or it could drive some quality bloggers and writers out of business.

CANOE.CA: Another NHL lockout could be beneficial in Quebec City’s efforts to land an NHL franchise, as it could have serious repercussions for struggling NHL teams, forcing one of them to relocate.

ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER: The Anaheim Ducks are preparing their season ticket holders for a possible lockout by providing ticket refund information for canceled games.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: I daresay the Ducks aren’t the only team providing this info to their season ticket holders.

CBC.CA: If there’s an NHL season, several players would reach significant milestones.

DETROIT FREE PRESS: The NHL released the logo for the 2013 Winter Classic.
