Given the lack of NHL trade and free agent rumors from the mainstream media, here’s a look at what’s kicking around the blogosphere. Enjoy!

BLEACHER REPORT: Joseph Kuchie on why the New Jersey Devils should avoid Roberto Luongo, Ben Chodos on why the Florida Panthers must acquire Luongo before the current CBA expires, and Riley Kufta on why the Vancouver Canucks should move him before this season starts.

Should the Canucks trade Luongo now?

SPECTOR’S NOTE: All three acknowledge the CBA negotiations and the threat of another NHL lockout could hamper any efforts at this point to move Luongo. Once the Devils re-signed Martin Brodeur and Johan Hedberg, they had no interest in any other goalies. The Panthers are believed to be interested in Luongo, but weren’t in any hurry to make a move, while the Canucks aren’t in any rush to trade him. Factor in the CBA talks, and we can pretty much rule out the possibility of Luongo being dealt anytime soon.

BLEACHER REPORT: Jeff Ware speculated on eight players who might be dealt before NHL training camps open.  He proposes Luongo to Florida for Mike Santorelli, Colby Robak and a 1st rounder, Bobby Ryan to Philadelphia for Matt Read and a first rounder, Keith Yandle to Boston straight up for David Krejci, Jay Bouwmeester to Detroit for Justin Abdelkader, Ryan Sproul and a second rounder, Evander Kane to the Canucks for Nicklas Jensen, Chris Tanev and a first rounder, Paul Stastny to Buffalo for Tyler Ennis and a second rounder, Niklas Hjarlmarsson to Minnesota for Pierre-Marc Bouchard and a fourth rounder, and Jonathan Bernier to Toronto for Nazem Kadri, Cody Franson and a fourth round pick.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Of all those proposals, only one – Luongo to Florida – makes sense, and even then, the Canucks fancy one of the Panthers top prospects, which Robak is not. The Flyers aren’t dealing for Ryan as they must address their defensive depth, and the Ducks would want Sean Couturier or Brayden Schenn as part of the return for Ryan. The Coyotes aren’t trading Yandle. If the Flames were shopping Bouwmeester, he’d likely be gone by now. The Jets aren’t moving Kane, nor are the Avalanche shopping Stastny. Why would the Blackhawks want Bouchard, who has a lengthy concussion history and might not even be healthy enough to start this season?  And talk about overpayment for Bernier! No way Burke gives up that much for him.
