KHL.RU: Ilya Kovalchuk’s first KHL goal was a beauty, but he was outshone by Nail Yakupov, who scored twice in regulation and the game-winner in a shootout, leading  Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk to a 3-2 victory over Kovalchuk’s SKA St Petersburg.

NBC SPORTS PRO HOCKEY TALK: Kovalchuk said if the NHL lockout should kill its season, he’d be delighted to play this season in the KHL.

RIANOVOSTI: Lev Prague has released Calgary Flames winger Jiri Hudler, who has been sidelined at least a month with an abdominal injury.

SI.COM: ESPN has a deal in principle with the KHL to televise that league’s games, but the deal has yet to be solidified. The KHL jumped the gun by claiming ESPN would start televising its games as early as Wednesday.
