Top ten NHL Twitter moments and fan moments, the Best of Backhand Shelf 2012, more lockout analysis, and a holiday wish list for NHL fans.
BACKHAND SHELF: The best of Backhand Shelf (Contributors Edition) for 2012.
THE COPPER AND BLUE: Derek Zona on the risk of damage to the NHL’s casual fan base as a result of the current lockout.
GREATEST HOCKEY LEGENDS: Joe Pelletier on why the NHL needs to play 50 games this season, as it could result in another “50 goals in 50 games” player, which could help woo back fans lost to the lockout.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: As Pelletier notes, there’s no guarantee something like that could happen. Given today’s defensive systems and goaltenders, a 50 in 50 season is a difficult goal to achieve. Still, if someone like Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin or Stamkos were to go on pace for such a season, it would definitely create some positive buzz for a league desperately in need of some post-lockout.
KUKLA’S KORNER: “The Puck Stops Here” gets an early start on the shortened season prediction list. Hey, why not? Better than wallowing in the current doom and gloom.
BLUESHIRT BANTER: Joe Fortunato with a holiday wish list for the NHL fan. All I want for Christmas is an NHL CBA.
HOCKEY FAN LOGIC: Hacking Gary Bettman’s voicemail to learn the truth about the NHL lockout.
