As first reported by HOCKEYBUZZ.com and verified by Arthur Staple of Newsday and Katie Strang of ESPN, the Boston Bruins have traded goaltender Tim Thomas to the NY Islanders for a conditional second round pick in 2014 or 2015. More to follow.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Staple is reporting the Islander made this move, not because they’ve convince Thomas to play this season, but rather to become salary cap compliant. The club needed to be over the salary cap floor by Friday, February 8. Thomas’ cap hit is $5 million. The conditional pick could be based upon if the Islanders re-sign Thomas after this season. No reaction yet from Thomas regarding the move, but it’s unlikely he’ll change his plans to take the remainder of this season off.
