Blues coach Ken Hitchcock ripped his club’s performance following the game, calling their recent stretch the “home stand from hell”. Backup Brian Elliott continues to struggled, giving up four goals on 23 shots.

NEWSOBSERVER.COM/NEWSDAY: Jiri Tlusty’s four points (2 goals, 2 assists) in the third period helped the Carolina Hurricanes overcome a 3-2 deficit to down the New York Islanders 6-4. It was the fifth straight loss for the Isles, who got two goals from Matt Moulson. John Tavares and Fran Nielsen also scored for the Islanders. Alexander Semin had a three-point night (1 G, 2A) for the surging Hurricanes.

AZCENTRAL.COM/DENVER POST: Shane Doan scored twice, including in overtime, as the Phoenix Coyotes rallied from a 2-1 deficit to edge the Colorado Avalanche 3-2. Coyotes goalie Mike Smith made 41 saves for the win. The Avs may have lost another player to injury, as defenseman Erik Johnson was forced to leave the game early in the third period with an upper body injury.

COLUMBUS DISPATCH/MERCURYNEWS.COM: Brandon Dubinsky, Matt Calvert and Nick Foligno each collected two points as the Columbus Blue Jackets shocked the San Jose Sharks 6-2. Steve Mason kicked out 25 shots for the win, handing the Sharks their fifth straight loss. Patrick Marleau and Joe Pavelski tallied for the Sharks.

ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER: Anaheim Ducks winger Corey Perry is trying to dig out of a slump in which he’s scored only once in the last eleven games.

THE BUFFALO NEWS: The Sabres poor defensive play means goaltender Ryan Miller has faced the most shots of all NHL netminders so far this season.

THE SPORTING NEWS:  Nashville Predators goalie Pekka Rinne has played well but he isn’t getting enough offensive help from his teammates.

NJ.COM: New Jersey Devils forward Travis Zajac claims he isn’t flustered by a scoring drought in which he hasn’t tallied a point in his last six games.

TAMPA TRIBUNE: The Lightning have placed forward Ryan Malone (lower body injury) on injured reserve for at least a week.

WASHINGTON POST: NHLPA player rep Jason Chimera said the players want to have a say in the NHL’s plans for divisional realignment.

 DETROIT NEWS: The Calgary Flames yesterday claimed goaltender Joey MacDonald off waivers from the Detroit Red Wings.
