Recaps of the Senators-Jets & Oilers-Predators games, plus the latest on Joffrey Lupul, Miikka Kiprusoff and more.

OTTAWA CITIZEN/WINNIPEG FREE PRESS: Jakob Silfverberg scored twice and Robin Lehner made 25 saves as the Ottawa Senators downed a tired Winnipeg Jets club 4-1.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Jets aren’t using fatigue as an excuse, and the Senators also played on Saturday, but fatigue was a factor.  Not to dismiss the Senators win, but they played Saturday afternoon, the Jets Saturday night. Those few extra hours of rest were crucial for the Senators.

EDMONTON JOURNAL/THE TENNESSEAN: A horrible line change by Sergei Kostitsyn early in the second period was the turning point, leading to Lennert Petrell snapping a 1-1 tie and sparking the Edmonton Oilers to a 3-2 victory.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: As Puck Daddy’s Greg Wyshynski observed, Kostitsyn might want to avoid watching next Saturday’s “Coach’s Corner” on Hockey Night in Canada, as he’s bound to be the main feature.

TORONTO STAR: The return of Joffrey Lupul should provide the Maple Leafs with a much-needed jolt of energy.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Though the Leafs fell 5-4 in a shootout to the Jets on Saturday, Lupul was a force in the game, which was the first in his return from a broken forearm. His return could be as good as making a trade for scoring depth.

CALGARY SUN: The Flames will be without Miikka Kiprusoff in their upcoming game against the Stars in Dallas, as he remained in Calgary to attend the imminent birth of his second child.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Congratulations to Kiprusoff on the impending addition to his family.

VANCOUVER PROVINCE: Injuries to wingers David Booth and Zack Kassian could force the Canucks to call up untested Nicklas Jensen.

LA PRESSE: The Canadiens have signed defenseman Darren Dietz to a three-year contract.
