Recaps of Friday’s NHL action featuring American teams, the Islanders re-sign Lubomir Visnovsky, Jaromir Jagr and Steve Sullivan reach career milestones, and updates on Jeff Skinner, Matt Greene & more.

Jaromir Jagr acknowledges ovation for his 1,000th career NHL assist.

Jaromir Jagr acknowledges ovation for his 1,000th career NHL assist.

DALLAS MORNING NEWS/PIONEER PRESS: Jaromir Jagr collected his 1,000th NHL assist as the Dallas Stars defeated the Minnesota Wild 5-3.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: A remarkable achievement for one of the NHL’s most remarkable players.

ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER/CHICAGO TRIBUNE: Sheldon Souray’s late goal lifted the Anaheim Ducks to a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks, sweeping their season series with the ‘Hawks.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: I’d love to see these two clubs clash in this year’s playoffs.

TAMPA TRIBUNE/NJ.COM: The Tampa Bay Lightning got their first victory under new coach Jon Cooper, edging the New Jersey Devils 5-4 in a shootout.

NBC SPORTS PRO HOCKEY TALK: The New York Islanders last night announced the re-signing of defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky to a two-year, $9.5 million contract extension.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Visnovsky’s new deal is worth $4.75 million per season. Once again, the Islanders surprise by re-signing a player most assume will depart via free agency. Visnovsky joined the Isles reluctantly last summer by unsuccessfully attempting to overturn his trade from the Anaheim Ducks, fueling the assumption he’d only play this season with the Islanders. Like Evgeni Nabokov before him, however, Visnovsky has been won over. He’s also having a decent season with the Islanders. Obviously, they didn’t want to lose his experience and skill. It’s also believed their contract talks with Mark Streit are going well, so I don’t believe he’ll be available at this year’s trade deadline.

PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE: Jarome Iginla’s work visa issues have been resolved and he will arrive in Pittsburgh today to join the Penguins.

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS: NY Rangers head coach John Tortorella held a 12-minute on-ice chat with struggling winger Marian Gaborik at the end of practice yesterday in Ottawa.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Gaborik’s struggles have made him the target of trade rumors, but the extra season at $7.5 million will likely keep him a Ranger.

NEWSOBSERVER.COM: Carolina Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner is struggling to regain his consistency after returning from a concussion suffered in February.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Skinner hasn’t been the same since suffering that concussion, the second in as many seasons.

ARIZONA REPUBLIC: Phoenix Coyotes forward Steve Sullivan has persevered over back injuries to become the 285th player in NHL history to play 1, 000 games.

SPECTOR’S NOTE:  Congratulations to Sullivan for overcoming a potentially career-ending injury to achieve the milestone.

LOS ANGELES TIMES: Injured defenseman Matt Greene could return to the Kings lineup by late-April, in time for the playoffs.
