LOS ANGELES TIMES/CHICAGO TRIBUNE: Dustin Brown’s goal with roughly a minute and a half remaining in regulation gave the Los Angeles Kings a 5-4 win over the Chicago Blackhawks.

DETROIT NEWS/ARIZONA REPUBLIC: Pavel Datsyuk’s third period power-play goal snapped a 2-2 two and lifted the Detroit Red Wings to a 3-2 win over the Phoenix Coyotes, handing the latter their sixth straight loss.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Wings, who were at one point this season in danger of sliding out of post-season contention, are now perched fifth overall, while the Coyotes have slid to twelfth, four points out of contention.

STARTRIBUNE.COM/DALLAS MORNING NEWS: Zach Parise collected three points, and seven teammates (including Mikko Koivu and Pierre-Marc Bouchard) had two-point efforts, as the Minnesota Wild stomped the Dallas Stars 7-4. The win lifted the Wild back into a tie with Vancouver for first in the Northwest Division, though the Wild have won more games and hold a game in hand.

SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS/ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER: The Anaheim Ducks dropped their third straight game, falling to the San Jose Sharks 5-3. Martin Havlat, Brent Burns and Joe Pavelski each  collected a goal and an assist for the Sharks.

TAMPA TRIBUNE: The Lightning have announced the hiring of Jon Cooper as their new head coach. Cooper was the head coach of the Syracuse Crunch, the Lightning’s AHL affiliate.

DENVER POST: Adrian Dater wonders how long Joe Sacco will retain his job as head coach of the struggling Colorado Avalanche.

PHILLY.COM: Philadelphia Flyers forward Daniel Briere has been sidelined indefinitely by a concussion.
