Sharks about to trade Ryane Clowe?

CSN BAY AREA: Kevin Kurz reports the San Jose Sharks may be moving closer to trading winger Ryane Clowe. A source claimed the Sharks have approached Clowe’s agent about waiving his no-trade clause, and a trade could happen as early as today. Kurz believes Boston, Montreal and the NY Rangers are the likely destinations.

CSNNE.COM: Joe Haggerty reports the Bruins have been “heavily scouting” the Sharks over the past week, while the Sharks eastern scout John Ferguson Jr has been tracking the Bruins over the past couple of games.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Of the three clubs, the Bruins are in my opinion the likely destination. They’ve been scouting the Sharks for weeks. The Rangers could pursue Clowe, but I’m not sure if they’re as motivated a buyer as the Bruins right now. The Canadiens could get in on it, but they really don’t need much, and I doubt GM Marc Bergevin is willing to give up a first round pick (part of the rumored asking price) for a rental player like Clowe.

THE BUFFALO NEWS: John Vogl reports the recent comments by Sabres GM Darcy Regier that he’s open to listening to trade offers for any and all Sabres players aren’t being taken by Ryan Miller as an indication of a roster overhaul heading toward the trade deadline. Miller also said a recent report claiming he submitted a list of eight teams to management to which he will not accept a trade is false.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Regier dealt pending UFA blueliner Jordan Leopold yesterday to the Blues, and he’ll obviously try to move pending UFAs Robyn Regehr and Jochen Hecht. I believe his comments signals he’s willing to listen to offers, but I don’t believe he’ll start blowing up his roster this week. It doesn’t hurt to field offers for players like Miller now, in order to gauge what their market value could be this summer.

CSNWASHINGTON.COM: Chuck Gormley reports he’s in no hurry to shop backup goalie Michal Neuvirth at the trade deadline.

DETROIT FREE PRESS: Helene St. James reports Detroit Red Wings GM Ken Holland isn’t interested in acquiring playoff rental players at the deadline, nor does he wants to part with his first round pick. She believes the Wings are interested in Calgary’s Jay Bouwmeester but might not like the asking price.

TAMPA BAY TIMES: Damien Cristodero offers up a mea culpa for a recent column in which he mused over the possibility of the Lightning trading Martin St. Louis, which subsequently formed the basis for groundless trade speculation about the veteran winger.  GM Steve Yzerman recently rejected the rumors.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Cristodero was very clear in his original column he was merely speculating when he wondered if Yzerman would consider the notion of asking St. Louis to waive his no-trade clause. In rejecting the idea of the Bolts shopping St. Louis, I frequently reminded readers on this site (and in my THN.com column) Cristodero was just musing out loud. Unfortunately, some folks simply saw the headline, interpreted it as Yzerman shopping St. Louis without fully reading the story, and it blew up into “Martin St. Louis is available and could be headed to Boston/New York/Philadelphia”.   Hopefully, nobody holds this against Cristodero, who (along with the Tampa Tribune’s Erik Erlendsson) does an excellent job covering the Lightning.
