With the NHL trade deadline less than 24 hours away, here’s an updated look at some of the names still kicking around the rumor mill.

Could the Islanders move Mark Streit?

Could the Islanders move Mark Streit?

CBC.CA: Elliotte Friedman examined possible moves by the Dallas Stars after they shipped out Derek Roy and Jaromir Jagr. One possibility could be defenseman Stephane Robidas, though he has a year left on his contract with a no-trade clause…He still expects the Sharks will trade Ryane Clowe…With Jay Bouwmeester off the market, attention shifts to San Jose’s Dan Boyle and the Islanders Mark Streit. The Isles are trying to re-sign Streit to a 3-year extension but it might not get done…The Flames would prefer to retain Mark Giordano and Curtis Glencross, but there’s interest around the league in the pair. The Rangers and Senators are rumored to be interested in Glencross…The Maple Leafs won’t part with a first round pick for Miikka Kiprusoff…Friedman believes Kings goalie Jonathan Bernier is a draft-day deal, as they need him right now…He doesn’t buy into the “Ales Hemsky to Boston” rumors…The Canucks are receiving inquiries about Mason Raymond…He also wonders if the Canucks would move Roberto Luongo if it doesn’t lead to a significant addition at center…He doesn’t believe the Flyers will shop Sean Couturier…

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Friedman also commented on Coyotes UFAs who could be moved, Ben Bishop and Mike Ribeiro, but it’s nothing we haven’t already read and heard elsewhere. Anyway, Robidas would be an interesting addition into the trade market if the Stars are willing to move him, and if he wants to go…I also expect Clowe moves by the deadline…I don’t expect Boyle or Streit to be moved, as they’re too valuable right now to their respective clubs as they battle for playoff spots…I’d think the Flames prefer to retain Giordano, but I expect they’ll listen to offers for Glencross…I’ve been saying for months the Kings won’t move Bernier this season…I also didn’t buy into the “Hemsky-to-Boston” rumors, and with their pickup of Jagr, they have even less need for him…The Canucks could move Raymond, but I’m guessing they’ll hang onto him as they push for a playoff berth…Now that the Canucks have a center, they can afford to hang onto Luongo for the rest of the season and shop him this summer. Roy is only a rental, and the Canucks maintain they want a return for Luongo to help them long-term…I also don’t believe the Flyers will move Couturier at the deadline.

ESPN.COM: Pierre LeBrun notes the addition of Jay Bouwmeester gives the St. Louis Blues 9 defensemen, suggesting Ian Cole or Kris Russell could become trade candidates. He doubts there will be any interest in Wade Redden…Coyotes Raffi Torres, Boyd Gordon and Derek Morris are attracting interest in the trade market. The Red Wings might have interest in Morris.

Craig Custance listed Buffalo’s Thomas Vanek and Jason Pominville, Calgary’s Miikka Kiprusoff, Washington’s Mike Ribeiro, Phoenix’s Keith Yandle, Vancouver’s Roberto Luongo, San Jose’s Ryane Clowe, St. Louis’ Kris Russell and Ottawa’s Ben Bishop among the biggest trade deadline targets.

Scott Burnside listed the Bruins, Rangers, Blackhawks, Canucks and Red Wings as clubs for whom the deadline looms large.

Katie Strang reports of no progress in Mark Streit’s contract talks with the Islanders, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll move him at the trade deadline.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Interesting observation by LeBrun about the Blues defense corps. Cole or Russell could become trade candidates, though they’re under no pressure to move either guy. Could be worth watching between now and 3 pm ET tomorrow…With Bouwmeester off the market, Morris certainly seems to be attracting some attention. He’s got one season remaining on his contract and a limited NTC, but his experience could be of interest for clubs seeking blueline depth. His $2.75 million salary is also reasonable…The Sabres are believed fielding offers for Pominville, but that’s no guarantee he’ll be dealt. I also suspect they’d prefer to retain Vanek. I also don’t see Yandle being shopped, and still believe the Canucks will wait until this summer to move Luongo. Bishop could be moved if Craig Anderson is ready to go by Friday, but the Senators aren’t under any pressure to move him, and can always demote Lehner to make room for Anderson…The Bruins are apparently seeking a defenseman and a checking line forward, so they’re still believed in the hunt for Ryane Clowe. Maybe they’d have interest in the Blues Ian Cole or Kris Russell, or Carolina’s Jamie McBain?…The Blackhawks are also believed seeking a defenseman but GM Stan Bowman isn’t under pressure to get one. The Canucks addressed their biggest need by landing Roy, but they might not be done if they get a good offer for Luongo. The Wings might consider McBain, as I don’t see the Blues willing to move one of their extra blueliners to Detroit. While I don’t doubt the Rangers are shopping for help, I really don’t see anything in the market which could help them now. They’re linked to Ryane Clowe in the rumor mill, but the Blueshirts need more than him if they’re to regain last season’s form. As for Streit, again, I have my doubts the Isles would move him when they’re battling for a playoff berth.

BUFFALO NEWS: John Vogl reports Sabres goalie Ryan Miller isn’t being mentioned as much in the rumor mill leading up to the trade deadline.

WGR550: Paul Hamilton reports Sabres forward Jason Pominville addressed the recent report that he submitted a list of eight teams to which he won’t accept a trade to management.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Again, I don’t see the Sabres moving Miller at the trade deadline, but I wouldn’t rule it out this summer, especially if they can find an affordable replacement. As for Pominville, with notable names like Iginla and Jagr off the market, Sabres GM Darcy Regier is curious about what his captain might attract now. Still have my doubts he gets dealt. We’ll find out tomorrow.

NBC SPORTS PRO HOCKEY TALK: San Jose Sharks winger Ryane Clowe remains linked with the Canadiens, Wild, Rangers and Blackhawks.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun believes the Canucks, despite acquiring Derek Roy, aren’t out of the Clowe sweepstakes. He was supposedly close to going to the Flyers or Bruins at one point. We’ll know his fate for sure by mid-afternoon tomorrow ET.
