Updates on Jason Spezza, David Clarkson and Nik Antropov, while the Canadiens overhaul their mobile presence.

OTTAWA CITIZEN: Wayne Scanlan makes the case for Jason Spezza to be the new captain of the Ottawa Senators. “He thrives on the attention, happily endures the throngs of media that daily shadow his dressing room stall, and clearly wants the role”, writes Scanlan, who also cited Spezza’s strides as a maturing player and mentor.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: I agree with Scanlan’s take. It would be surprising if Spezza’s passed over for the captaincy.

TORONTO STAR: New Maple Leafs forward David Clarkson had a cool job yesterday, serving ice cream at a Toronto Dairy Queen for charity.

WINNIPEG FREE PRESS: Former Jets forward Nik Antropov has flown the coop, landing with Barys Astana of the Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: This move likely signals the end of Antropov’s NHL playing career. He made his debut in 1999-2000 with the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he spent nearly nine seasons. After a short stint with the NY Rangers, Antropov signed with the Atlanta Thrashers in 2009-10, and moved with the club to Winnipeg in 2011. In 788 NHL regular season games, he scored 193 goals and 465 points. His best season was in 09-10 with the Thrashers, netting a career-best 67 points.

MONTREAL GAZETTE: The Canadiens have selected Montreal-based digital marketing agency Twisted Image to improve their mobile marketing strategies.
