New Canucks coach John Tortorella remains talkative…for now, a busy week for Carey Price, James Reimer ready to compete with and support Jonathan Bernier, a hockey yearbook predicts the Senators to win the 2014 Stanley Cup, the Oilers and Flames rookie camps are set to open, and the Jets release their TV schedule for the upcoming season.

VANCOUVER SUN/VANCOUVER PROVINCE: New Canucks coach John Tortorella is very talkative, opening up about young players, sleep doctors, dogs and more. Of course, he’s currently on vacation, which could explain his chattiness.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Enjoy this engaging Tortorella while you can, Vancouver sports scribes.  If his history is anything to go by, he’ll have little to say to you when the season begins, especially if the Canucks struggle.

Canadiens Carey Price faces a busy week.

TRI-CITIES HERALD: Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price will face a busy week, marrying fiancee Angela Webber on Saturday, then reporting the following day for Canada’s National Men’s Team orientation camp in Calgary.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Price’s wedding date was obviously set before he learned he’d be invited to the orientation camp.

TSN.CA: Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender James Reimer is ready to compete for the starter’s job with newcomer Jonathan Bernier, as well as support his new Leafs teammate.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: If both goalies play well it’ll be a good situation for the Leafs, but if Reimer is relegated to the backup role, it could make him a possible trade candidate if the Leafs need help at another position.

OTTAWA CITIZEN: James Gordon recently observed the newly-released Sports Forecaster has selected the Ottawa Senators to win the 2014 Stanley Cup.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Senators are an improving club and within a few years could become legitimate Cup contenders, but as Gordon noted, even a mildly delusional Senators fan would hesitate to pick them as Cup champions for the coming season. Then again, in Gordon’s poll asking Senators fans where their club will finish next season, 26 percent (the second-most among participants) believe they’ll win the Cup.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: 2013 first rounder Darnell Nurse will be among 27 players to report to the Oilers rookies camp, which includes the Young Stars Classic involving the Oilers, Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks, Winnipeg Jets and San Jose Sharks prospects in Penticton, BC from September 5-9.

CALGARY HERALD: Flames 2013 first round pick Sean Monahan will also be there.

WINNIPEG SUN: The Jets have released their television schedule for 2013-14, which includes 14 games on CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada.
