Daniel Alfredsson skating with former Senators teammates, P.K. Subban’s workout routine, Nazem Kadri’s high sense of self-belief could be stalling contact talks with the Leafs, while Mark Scheifele hopes to make the Jets this season.
OTTAWA SUN: Former Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson raised some eyebrows yesterday by participating in an informal skate with his former Senators teammates, even wearing a Sens jersey. His former teammates, including Erik Karlsson, felt no animosity toward their former captain.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Wonder how long it takes for Senators owner Eugene Melnyk to try putting a stop to that.
TORONTO SUN: Steve Simmons thinks Nazem Kadri’s high self-belief could be stalling his contract talks with the Maple Leafs. It’s believed Kadri seeks “star money” on a long-term deal, and the two sides aren’t believed close to a new deal. Kadri had 44 points in 48 games last season, only three behind John Tavares and ahead of such notables as Anze Kopitar, Matt Duchene and David Krejci.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Working against Kadri is he’s coming off his entry-level contract, his big numbers came in a lockout-shortened season, his production fell off late in the season and he struggled in the playoff round against the Bruins . Kadri has no leverage here, so even if he stages a holdout, he’s going to lose. I think he’ll have to accept a short-term contract (two-three years) for probably no more than $2.4 million per season.
SPORTSNET.CA: Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban recently posted a couple of his workout photos, which included doing chin-ups with 100-lb weights attached to his body.
TSN.CA: The Canadiens yesterday signed goaltender Dustin Tokarski to a one-year, two-way contract.
WINNIPEG FREE PRESS: Mark Scheifele is focused on making the Jets this season.
