LOS ANGELES TIMES: Future Hall-of-Famer Teemu Selanne has announced he’ll return to the Anaheim Ducks for his final NHL season, inking a one-year, $2 million contract.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Selanne released a humorous video (see link above) to announce his return, following in the same vein as last year’s announced return. This, return, however, really will be the last for the 43-year-old star, who is only 25 goals away from 700 NHL career goals.

There were concerns over Selanne’s playing time, but it appears a recent phone conversation with Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau sealed the deal. Selanne said he wants top six minutes and power-play time, but added he’d be willing to accept a lesser role if younger Ducks forwards outplayed him. Hopefully, “The Finnish Flash” has enough left in the tank for one more quality season.

MLIVE.COM: Daniel Alfredsson began skating with his new Detroit Red Wings teammates. He wore a number 11 jersey (Daniel Cleary’s old number) and sat in Valtteri Filppula’s old stall, next to Henrik Zetterberg.

NEWSOBSERVER.COM: Tuomo Ruutu claims his recovery from off-season hip surgery went well.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Hurricanes playoff hopes could get a boost if Ruutu remains healthy this season.

CSNWASHINGTON.COM: Chuck Gormley reports Capitals blueliner Karl Alzner hopes his shut-down style of defense helps him crack Team Canada’s roster.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The key would be how Alzner could perform his role on the bigger Olympic ice surface. Unfortunately, there was no opportunity to assess that during Team Canada’s recent orientation camp.

CSNPHILLY.COM: Flyers defenseman Bruno Gervais is excited about his former NY Islanders teammate Mark Streit coming to Philadelphia.

NJ.COM: The New Jersey Devils will remain on WFAN radio for the upcoming season.
