Jason Spezza, Milan Michalek and Bobby Ryan work on their line chemistry, injuries sideline Joffrey Lupul and Colton Orr, Devan Dubnyk seeks a freash star, Andrei Markov not worried about his future, Ondrej Pavelec thrills family of cancer-stricken boy, and more.

OTTAWA CITIZEN/OTTAWA SUN: Senators Jason Spezza and Milan Michalek are hoping for high-scoring chemistry with new linemate Bobby Ryan.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: If Spezza and Michalek can stay healthy this season, they could form a lethal first line with Ryan.

TORONTO SUN: Back spasms waylaid Maple Leafs forward Joffrey Lupul and a bone bruise sidelined Colton Orr.

SPORTSNET: Mason Raymond has a good shot of making the Maple Leafs. GM Dave Nonis said he’ll do the necessary roster juggling to fit Raymond in under the salary cap if he earns a roster spot.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Injuries could play a part in making room for Raymond. Otherwise, the Leafs will have to trade, waive or demote a player to make cap space for him.

Devan Dubnyk once again prepared to prove himself an NHL starter.

Devan Dubnyk once again prepared to prove himself an NHL starter.

EDMONTON JOURNAL/EDMONTON SUN:  Oilers goalie Devan Dubnyk is looking forward to the opportunity to once again prove himself as a starter.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Oilers defense over the past couple of seasons didn’t do Dubnyk any favors.  Hopefully, that won’t be as much of an issue for him this season.

TVA SPORTS: Montreal Canadiens defenseman Andrei Markov is entering the final season of his contract, but isn’t dwelling on the possibility this season could be his last with the Habs.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Injuries have significantly hampered Markov in recent years, while P.K. Subban has supplanted him as the Canadiens best defenseman. He’ll have to accept less money on a shorter term if he hopes to remain a Hab.

WINNIPEG SUN: Jets goaltender Ondrej Pavelec took time following yesterday’s practice to visit with young cancer patient Justin Neudorf and his family.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Always heartening to see a pro athlete genuinely willing to spend time with sick children. Best wishes to Neudorf in his recovery. Stay strong, young man!

VANCOUVER PROVINCE:  It remains to be seen if the Canucks will still find new head coach John Tortorella a breath of fresh air later in the season.

CALGARY SUN: Flames players are determined not to finish in the bottom of the standings this season.
