STLTODAY.COM: Alex Steen scored twice and Jaroslav Halak made 22 saves as the St. Louis Blues thumped the Nashville Predators 6-1.

STARTRIBUNE.COM: Niklas Backstrom turned in a 33-save performance backstopping the Minnesota Wild to a 5-3 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.

TBO.COM: Two late goals less than two minutes apart by Martin St. Louis and Ondrej Palat rallied the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 3-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres.

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS: Derick Brassard scored in overtime to lift the NY Rangers to a 4-3 win over the slumping Detroit Red Wings.

NORTHJERSEY.COM: Two late power-play goals by Marek Zidlicky and Andy Greene gave the New Jersey Devils their first road win of the season by downing the Boston Bruins 4-3.

PHILLY.COM: Vincent Lecavalier scored a hat trick carrying the Flyers to a 5-2 win over the New York Islanders.

DENVER POST: Matt Duchene is thriving under the fast-paced system and personal style of new Colorado Avalanche coach Patrick Roy.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Duchene is currently the Avalanche’s leading scorer with eight goals and 12 points in 10 games.

LOS ANGELES TIMES: Anaheim Ducks winger Jakob Silfverberg has been sidelined four-six weeks with a broken right hand.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: A tough blow for the Ducks offense, as Silfverberg was fourth in team scoring with four goals and seven points.

NEWSOBSERVER.COM: Former NY Islanders goaltender Rick DiPietro has signed a professional tryout contract with the Carolina Hurricanes AHL affiliate in Charlotte.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: With Cam Ward and Anton Khudobin currently sidelined indefinitely and their current tandem now Justin Peters and Mike Murphy, the Hurricanes obviously are in need of experienced help in goal. This could be DiPietro’s stepping stone back to the NHL.
