CHICAGO SUN-TIMES: Patrick Sharp scored twice and Kris Versteeg scored his first goal since his trade from the Panthers as the Blackhawks thumped the San Jose Sharks 5-1.  The Blackhawks also placed backup goalie Nikolai Khabibulin on LTIR and recalled Antti Raanta.

WASHINGTON POST: Alexander Ovechkin scored twice, including his 17th to tie Alex Steen for the goalscoring lead, powering the Washington Capitals to a 4-1 win over Steen’s St. Louis Blues.

LOS ANGELES TIMES: Ben Scrivens made 37 saves recording his second straight shutout as the LA Kings blanked the New York Rangers 1-0. Tyler Toffoli scored the game’s only goal.

PHILLY.COM: Flyers center Sean Couturier’s restored confidence is among the reason for the club’s 4-1-2 record over the last seven games.

NEWSDAY: With goaltender Evgeni Nabokov sidelined at least four weeks with a groin injury the Islanders will turn to backup Kevin Poulin and call-up Anders Nilsson.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Keep an eye on the Isles over the next few weeks. If Poulin and Nilsson can’t get the job done between the pipes, GM Garth Snow could be forced to shop for help.
