DENVER POST: Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov has been formally charged with one count of third-degree assault (a misdemeanor) stemming from a domestic violence incident in late-October. He is scheduled to appear in court on December 2.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Rule out jail time for Varlamov if found guilty. A fine and perhaps court-ordered counselling could be his punishment.

DETROIT NEWS: Following Gustav Nyquist’s two-goal performance in his first NHL game of the season, Red Wings GM Ken Holland said the young forward would remain with the club for the rest of the season.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: This could eventually lead to some roster juggling by Holland to clear cap space and a roster spot for Nyquist once Daniel Alfredsson and Stephen Weiss return to the line and Danny DeKeyser comes off LTIR.

NORTHJERSEY.COM: A slumping Damien Brunner wasn’t surprised to be a healthy scratch during the New Jersey Devils recent game against the LA Kings.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Brunner was expected to bolster the Devils speed and offense this season. So far he’s been a disappointment.

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES: Blackhawks rookie center Brandon Pirri is showing improvement in his overall game as this season progresses.
