STAR-TELEGRAM.COM: Cody Eakin, Stephane Robidas and Ryan Garbutt scored in a 53-second span of the third period to lift the Dallas Stars to a 6-3 win over the Anaheim Ducks.

CBS SPORTS: Sports legal analyst Eric Macramalla examined the ramifications of Colorado Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov being charged with third-degree assault of his girlfriend, which could include jail time and deportation. Macramalla expects Varlamov’s lawyer may pursue a plea bargain to avoid the possibility of deportation.

TSN.CA: Macramalla also examined the concussion lawsuit filed against the NHL by ten former players, suggesting a number of hurdles stand in the players way. “The players will need  to provide good evidence showing that the league concealed the harmful impact of repeated headshots. If they don’t have that evidence, they will have a very difficult time. On top of that, they will need to deal with the very tricky issue of causation”, reports Macramalla.

SPORTSNET.CA: Hockey Night in Canada’s colorful Don Cherry is uncertain over his future in the wake of Rogers Communication taking control of his program.

NATIONAL POST: TSN has no plans to part with the rights to the former Hockey Night in Canada theme song.

SPECTOR’S NOTE:  As one of my readers noted on Twitter, “”My wife can take the house, but I’ll be damned if she takes my wind chimes!” I suspect TSN is retaining those rights for when they’ll try to outbid Rogers in twelve years time.

DETROIT NEWS: Red Wings star Pavel Datsyuk will miss tonight’s game against the Boston Bruins with “concussion-like symptoms”. He’s yet to return to the ice since the injury and could miss upcoming games against the NY Islanders and Ottawa Senators.

TWINCITIES.COM: Minnesota Wild star Zach Parise is sidelined two-three weeks with a bruised left foot.

TBO.COM: Philadelphia Flyers forward Vincent Lecavalier returns to Tampa Bay for the first time since he was bought out by the Lightning when the two clubs face off tonight.

ARIZONA REPUBLIC: The Phoenix Coyotes have placed defenseman Rostislav Klesla on waivers.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Teams seeking blueline depth (Carolina, Edmonton) might have interest. We’ll find out later today.

NEWSOBSERVER.COM: Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Tim Gleason is out a week with a lower body injury but they could have Alex Semin (concussion) back by that time.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Hurricanes are reportedly shopping Gleason so this will hurt those efforts.

PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE: Penguins Tanner Glass will miss three-four weeks with a broken right hand, while defenseman Paul Martin could miss a week.

NJ.COM: Devils rookie defenseman Eric Gelinas avoided serious injury in a collision with Winnipeg’s Evander Kane on Monday.

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS: Former NY Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro requested his release from his PTO contract with the Hurricanes minor league affiliate.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: That’s likely the end for DiPietro’s pro career.  At least he was well compensated by the Islanders in his compliance buyout, but it is sad to see a once-promising career derailed by injuries.

NEWSDAY: The Islanders have unveiled their new jerseys for their NHL Stadium Series game against the Rangers at Yankee Stadium on January 29, 2014.
