The Minnesota Wild have acquired goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a fourth-round pick in 2014.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: So much for the rumors of Martin Brodeur or Jaroslav Halak heading to Minnesota. A good short-term rental for the Wild. Bryzgalov is a UFA this summer and carries an affordable contract for the rest of this season.
It’s clear they wanted an experienced backup for rookie Darcy Kuemper down the stretch. Niklas Backstrom is still hampered by off-season surgery and starter Josh Harding continues to struggle with multiple sclerosis symptoms.
This move also means Harding is probably done for the season. It’s also believed the Oilers could be pursuing another goalie, perhaps Viktor Fasth from the Anaheim Ducks. Stay tuned…
